Reviewer Guidelines
Peer Reviewer Responsibilities
Peer reviewers are responsible for critically reading and evaluating an article in their area of specialty, and then providing respectful, constructive, and honest feedback to the authors about their submissions. It is recommended that peer reviewers discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the article, how to improve the strengths and quality of the work and evaluate the relevance and originality of the article.
Before Reviewing
Please consider the following:
- Does the article you have been asked to review match your expertise?
If you receive an article that covers a topic that is not within your area of expertise, please notify the editor as soon as possible. Please recommend alternative reviewers.
- Do you have time to review the paper? The final review of an article must be completed within two weeks. If you feel unable to complete the review within this timeframe, please notify the editor and if possible, suggest an alternative reviewer. If you have agreed to review a paper but can no longer complete the work by the deadline, please contact the editor as soon as possible.
- Is there a potential conflict of interest? Although a conflict of interest will not disqualify you from reviewing an article, it is important to disclose all conflicts of interest to the editor before reviewing. If you have questions regarding potential conflicts of interest, please do not hesitate to contact the editor.
The review
IKTIFAK: The Journal of Child and Gender Studies has completed an assignment with a review form which includes an assessment of the title, abstract, content and references used. Reviews can be done on a form or directly in the article file. Reviewers may provide additional comments and any reference documents for improvement of the article if necessary.
When reviewing the article, please note the following:
- Content Quality and Originality
- Clarity and Organization
Is the article new and interesting enough to be worth publishing? Does this add to the lore canon? Does the article comply with the standards of IKTIFAK: Journal of Child and Gender Studies? Is the research question important? To determine its originality and suitability for the journal, it might be helpful to think about the research in terms of what percentiles it is in? Is this paper in the top 25% of papers in this field? You may want to do a quick literature search using a tool like Scopus to see if there are any reviews regarding the area. If the research has been discussed before, provide references to the work to the editor.
